Mildred Murray

Mildred Murray was a pioneer for equal opportunities for girls in Baltimore County.

An administrator for 30 years, Mildred Murray was dedicated to providing equal opportunities in the physical education and interscholastic program for Baltimore County's School System. Because of her efforts, Baltimore County met the standards for Title IX before it became public law.

Mrs. Murray was a pioneer in promoting, organizing and chairing the first girls state championships in field hockey, softball, volleyball, basketball and lacrosse. She was notably the first woman appointed coordinator of physical education and athletics for boys and girls in a Maryland school system.

In 1999, Mrs. Murray, a longtime friend of Towson University, established an endowed scholarship. Since then, the Mildred Murray Scholarship Fund has provided support to more than 20 students studying in the Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health Professions. In 2017, Towson University was notified of a special gift from Mrs. Murray's estate that would ensure her legacy continues to benefit the next generation of students.

Mrs. Murray was a leader whose dedication to her belief in equality and the importance of educational opportunities for all was demonstrated throughout her life, personally and professionally.
