Towson University is grateful to have received a $1.3 million bequest from the trust of Mr. William M. Hermann, Jr. He established the Faith C. Hermann Education Endowed Scholarship for the College of Education in memory of his wife in 2020.

Faith Hermann ’71 was a dedicated educator, teacher and administrator in the Baltimore County Public Schools system for 31 years as well as an instructor at Goucher College and Towson University.

Hermann established the scholarship to provide support for students in the college of education pursuing a career as a middle or high school English teacher.

Ms. Hermann’s legacy has allowed future teachers to continue in her footsteps.

Emani HarrisEmani Harris ’22, English, Secondary Education Concentration, was the first recipient of the Hermann scholarship.

She was quite anxious about how she was going to continue with her undergrad degree, but thanks to the generosity of the Hermanns she completed her degree and started working immediately after graduation. Harris is now a 10th grade English teacher at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute.

“I think—while hard and challenging—no other job would have been as fulfilling. Growing up, I didn’t have a teacher who I connected with,” said Harris. “Now, my students have a safe space—a teacher who looks like them, close to the same age. They have someone who just ‘sees’ them…and teaches them to love English. I love inspiring young people. Hard work but I wouldn’t change it.”

Just like the Hermanns, YOU have the power to open doors of opportunity for deserving students. Contact Kathleen Hider at (410) 704-6287 or khider@towson.edu to learn how you can impact future TU students.
