Joyce A. Brown

Alumna Supports Future Educators Through Gift

Joyce Brown

Joyce A. Brown ’68

A lifelong educator, Joyce A. Brown ’68 was dedicated to helping people learn to read.

Joyce graduated from then Towson State Teacher’s College and taught for 30 years in the Baltimore County School system. She also provided private tutoring to students for many years, well into retirement. Joyce specialized in reading and went on to pursue two master’s degrees in education, one each from Towson University and Johns Hopkins University.

“For as long as I can remember, Joyce always wanted to be a teacher,” says her bother Joe Brown.

Joyce loved learning and helping other people learn. During her teaching career, she coached Odyssey of the Mind, a worldwide creative problem-solving competition, and took two groups to national competitions. “It was important for her to give back to TU,” says her brother. “I know she would be pleased to see how her gift will make a difference for TU students, faculty and the college she cared about so much.”

Joyce’s gift will ensure her legacy lives on for years to come through her support of the TUF Grant Program and the Joyce A. Brown ’68 Scholarship Fund in the College of Education to support future educators.

Joyce wanted to make a difference for students and faculty. Towson University is grateful to the generous alumni and friends, like Joyce, who have remembered TU in their estate plans.
